yeehp. we're one of those freaky families that thinks microwaves are hazardous to your health, no, i don't think standing near one will kill you, but the way it alters the food, will kill ya from the inside out.
"how in the world do you survive without a microwave?" you ask. well first of all, lots of people survive without one.
...and really the only things we tended to use our microwave for were microwave popcorn, a cup of hot water, and reheating meals. now i use an air popper {pretty quick and WAY healthier since i control what kind of popcorn is used and what goes on the popcorn after it's popped}.
reheating meals? well, dave still has the microwave at work {boo-hiss} and i just use the toaster oven for my stuff. it takes about 10 minutes longer BUT it always comes out tasting better and is heated evenly. :)
and water really doesn't take THAT long to heat up in the kettle... i mean it's not like i have to set it over a fire... although, our stove is gas, so technically, yes, it is sitting on a fire.
the only thing i haven't found a solution for is my rice pack. you know, those nifty little things filled with rice that you heat up and place on your achy neck or back. nope still haven't figured that one out yet. ooh, maybe the dryer?? i dunno, i'll have to give it a try. any other suggestions?
anyways, i think it's been at least 6 months that we haven't had one and we're surviving... so, ya know, just thought i'd share that with ya. :)

I do love the convenience of my microwave, but I don't use it that much. The thing I don't have in my kitchen is a dishwasher. Luckily my girls are just about at the age that they can be my little dishwashers.
Wow. Life without a microwave would NOT work for me, ut kudos to you!
I have a microwave but don't use it for much if I am honest. Couldn't live without my diswasher though!
Lol. I've never met somebody who willingly is microwave-less.
oh i assure there are more... we're lurking in the dark corners of the health food stores. lol!
Good for you! There was life before the microwave oven. . .
What about a heating pad or hot water bottle instead of your rice pack? That is what I use when needed. . .just a thought.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

Interesting...hmmm
My chiropractor says that cold packs are almost always indicative for achey muscles anyways. I know there are times for hot packs, and maybe the dryer thing would work, or a double broiler with nothing but the pack in the top pot?
Woohoo!! Good for you. We haven't had a microwave for over a year now and we don't miss it, either. You are so right about the damage it does.
For popcorn you need a Whirly-Pop :) http://www.popcornpopper.com/
We've gave away our microwave about a year or so ago for health reasons. We use the toaster oven, it's actually almost just as fast. BUT I've burned a few pans forgetting about my boiling water on the stove...
